MARK SCHEIBMAYR

FIRST ROYALS OF EUROPE

Canadian Museum of History (CMH), 2024-25

Series of eight large-scale mural illustrations commissioned for "First Royals of Europe," an exhibit at the Canadian Museum of History (CMH), developed in collaboration with the Chicago Field Museum, and featuring artifacts from over 26 museum collections from Southeastern Europe.

The illustrations were meant to augment various thematic areas and time periods throughout the narrative of the exhibit. The illustration style was customized to fit an "epic tale" motif, with a romantic feel, taking influence from embossed and gilded books. While meant to be more evocative than realistic, many details and patterns were taken directly from the featured artifacts themselves.

Each piece was applied to the wall in dye-cut vinyl.

MARKHAM MOVES

Markham Museum, 2019-2023

7000 square foot exhibition about transportation technology and the science of movement.

I was the sole designer on a small development team with the objective of creating an accessible and engaging experience for museum visitors.

A key design goal was to animate the open gallery space using scale, colour, and illustration. The palette was an expansion of primary colours, applied to a racing flag, and a series of repeating transportation icons throughout the space.

My role included all exhibit text writing, panel and label layout, illustration, wayfinding, information design, gallery floorplan, and interactive module design.
